So in case you aren't aware, the reason why the Import from Instagram feature in @Pixelfed is so tricky is for two main reasons: 1) You don't actually upload the archive, it's unzipped and parsed client side, so you only upload the photos/videos and captions that you select 2) Instagram changes the json structure every few months, just to fuck with us But just to take a step back, when you import, your DMs and other private data is never uploaded The code is auditable

Okay, so back in 2016 when I first found Mastodon and it was in it's early days, I joined their IRC and private messaged Gargron to warn him that mastadon.social was available, and that I kept misspelling it as mastadon two years later when I came back and Mastodon was huge, I was so proud of that fact, I would tell everyone that I knew Gargron when Mastodon was small. A few months later I started @Pixelfed and that's why Gargron is my hero. Pixelfed wouldn't exist without Mastodon ✨ 🚀 💪

I've made mistakes in how I've interacted with our community, especially during the recent growth of Pixelfed and Loops. While I'm proud of what we've built over 7 years, I recognize that my leadership style hasn't always fostered the collaborative spirit we need. I'm making this public: I'll be better. I never wanted to become a BDFL. I like building things, and want to get Pixelfed, Loops, Sup, PubKit and my other projects to reach a stable state, and then hand over control to the community, once ready. I'll still be lurking in the background, ready to help when needed. But I think our projects will grow even more with a dedicated team of contributors and maintainers in control. This is why I'm working to establish a non-profit foundation! This belongs to the people, boost if you agree ❤️
