Pixelfed is a lot of things, but one thing it is not, is an opportunity for VC or others to ruin the vibe. I've turned down VC funding and will not inject advertising of any form into the project. I may offer monetization in the form of official hosting, or subscriptions for a badge or something, but those will not influence or otherwise have an advantage over 3rd party clients or the like. Pixelfed is for the people, period.
i don't know who is behind these offers, but like you can't just throw some money at me to get rid of me and our projects. better luck with a mastodon app, because i'm not interested.
The stream of VC offers to Loops and Pixelfed shows exactly how much research they're not doing in this space. While they're shooting their shot and some still question my federation contributions, I'm focused on what matters. Unbothered, unstoppable, and absolutely crushing it 💫
I have this memorable video from 2009 about social media and convergence. Want to see the whole thing?
no pressure though, i got this "Top of the charts, back in they hearts."
like, tiktok/meta really hecked it up if the NBA be joining Loops 😅
Mind blown that the NBA, Scott Hanselman and other notable people have joined I'll be shipping the new webUI tomorrow if things go to plan.
I appreciate the concern about my mental health and burnout. Thankfully, I have an amazing partner, family and friends that help keep me balanced, and sometimes it's even you guys that helps keep me grounded. I take every other day off from development usually, and that gives me time to spend with my partner and our doggo and cat. I'm not just some fedi wizard btw, I'm also a Bravo fan that can name and shame every housewife and below deck cast member. Been doing this for 7 years 😎
So it turns out the spike in resource usage is due to image optimization, I am working to add libvips support which will buy us some time before we have to add more servers to our fleet. #pixelfed #devops
There are over 1K new people waiting to get into , once the new Pixelfed app build is shipped I'll be focusing on getting the new webUI shipped and then the backend so you can self-host Loops ASAP.
