Poor old Tesla's having a terrible time of it. Its global sales are down 10% globally in 2025 β€” as much as 40% in Europe β€” and while it's maintaining sales in the U.S., that's not expected to last, and its domestic market share is just 38%. Is Google speaking out of both sides of its mouth? In May, CEO Sundar Pichai said that web publishing is not dying and VP of search Nick Fox said that the web is thriving, but in a court document filed by Google on Friday, lawyers wrote "the open web is already in rapid decline." What gives? For Search Engine Round Table, Barry Schwartz looks into what's going on. #Technology #Tech #Google #Search #SEO #Web

Anthropic has agreed to pay a minimum of $1.5 billion to settle the lawsuit brought by a group of authors who sued the AI company for illegally using pirated copies of their books to train large-language models. This covers 500,000 works, but judge William Alsup says if the list exceeds that number, Anthropic must pay an addition $3,000 per work. This is the largest settlement in U.S. history. John Grisham, George R.R. Martin and Jodi Picoult are part of a group of nearly 20 bestselling authors who have sued OpenAI, alleging β€œsystematic theft on a mass scale,” and this ruling could indicate the likely outcome of that case. #Technology #Tech #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Books @bookstodon #Authors #Anthropic

Last year, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt's "The Anxious Generation" was released. The book about how smartphones and overprotective parenting damage children's mental health has sold over two million copies. Jon Severs writes for the TES about academics' problems with the book: Shaky methodology, misunderstood studies, conclusions that go far beyond the data, and proposed solutions that start with parents, not tech companies. β€œWhy are parents even having to figure threats out?” asks Andrew Przybylski, professor of human behaviour and technology at the University of Oxford. β€œParents don’t have to pick between really safe and really dangerous trampolines β€” we have things in place to make sure it is very difficult to buy even a fairly dangerous trampoline." https://flip.it/9K.qEV #Technology #Tech #SocialMedia #JonathanHaidt #AnxiousGeneration #Academia #Parenting #Children #Bookstodon @bookstodon group
