The problem with “free speech culture,” as opposed to free speech law, is that it is fuzzy and malleable and can be manipulated like this to say “Richard Spencer talking was essential to healthy and productive debate but kids protesting Gaza is disruptive, intimidating, and discriminatory.”

Here’s the thing though: Trump voters (1) won’t believe any quantum of evidence (2) don’t care whether it’s true or not (3) will increase their support of him because anyone “attacked by the media” is inherently good (4) don’t think anything he said is particularly bad.
I am not a Rich Lowry fan. To the contrary, by lots. I am even less of a fan of his characteristically smug, douchey Band-of-Brooks-Brothers defense of Trump and Vance and his sneering dismissal of apt accusations of racism. But it sounded to me like he was trying to say “Haitian migrants.”
