🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image image This week in 1980, the Supertramp single “Breakfast in America” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #82 (December 13) Roger Hodgson wrote this one when he was in his late teens, and is basically about a youth living in England dreaming of going to the bright lights of the United States. Autobiographical? Somewhat… Hodgson recalled to Songfacts: “I do remember the Beatles had just gone to America, and I was pretty impressed with that. That definitely stimulated my dream of wanting to go to America. And obviously seeing all those gorgeous California girls on the TV and thinking, Wow. That's the place I want to go." And go he did, moving from England to California in 1973, where he has lived ever since… Hodgson said that he wrote it at a time when he "had a lot of dreams" and that it "still brings a smile to his face" when he sings it on stage. Speaking about the opening lyrics to the song, Hodgson added “I don't believe I had a girlfriend at that time, and if I did it wouldn't have lasted much longer after that!” On the charts it peaked at #6 in Ireland, #9 in the UK and South Africa, #14 in the Netherlands, #16 in Austria, #18 in Belgium, and #23 in Germany. Sadly, “Breakfast in America” didn’t do well in America, only reaching #62… #breakfastinamerica, #supertramp, #rogerhodgson, #80smusic, #rickdavies, #johnhelliwell, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

Songwriter and guitarist Krieger said to Guitar World's Alan Paul that the song's musical idea came from a lick by one of US blues guitarist Danny Kalb's compositions. It was originally recorded for the Doors’ first album, but didn’t make the cut, appearing on their second studio album “Strange Days”, later edited to a 2:37 length and released as the second single (after "People Are Strange") from that album. It peaked at #25 in the US, and #31 in Canada. #doors, #thedoors, #lovemetwotimes, #60smusic, #jimmorrison, #strangedays, #raymanzarek, #johndensmore, #robbiekrieger, #60srock, #rockhistory, #thisdayinrock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
