-THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE-
Created in Nancy, France in 1878, the vase La Carpe is an exquisite early expression of the artistic movement that would soon evolve into Art Nouveau.
Crafted with remarkable attention to form and texture, the piece depicts a carp with flowing, lifelike curves that seem to ripple through the glass itself.
Nancy was a rising hub of decorative arts in the late 19th century, and works like this helped establish the region's reputation for innovation in glassmaking.

LOOK AGAIN: All of these ocean wonders are ANIMALS, not PLANTS!

Sea sponges, corals, and sea anemones are just a few kinds of the mind-boggling animals that are commonly mistaken for plants.

🏰Berwartstein Castle
Berwartstein Castle in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The castle was built around the 12th century.
It is a rock castle meaning that parts of the natural rock it is built around are incorporated into the castle defenses so that the castle actually owns its layout to it. It was never seized in the medieval times because of its special entrance that was actually a shaft.
To climb it one needed a wooden ladder that was easy to remove blocking access altogether. So it took only one man with boiling liquid to guard the entrance.
The castle has an extremely deep (100+m deep) well and underground passages carved in the rock - with one of them leading to the village.
In the 13th century it was already a residence of robber barons who ransacked the lands around the castle. At the end of the 16th century the castle was abandoned (till the 19th century) after it was struck by a lighting bolt which cased a massive blaze.

Lyon, Auvergne Rhône Alpes, France
Lyon lit up the night in the best way, and the opening of Fête des Lumières turned the entire city into one huge outdoor gallery. The projections on the historic façades are the heart of the event, and each one tells a different story as you move from square to square. The festival began in the nineteenth century as a tribute to the Virgin Mary, and it has grown into one of the biggest light events in Europe.
Walking through the city during opening night feels different from any other time of year. Every corner has something new, from large scale displays on public buildings to small light pieces set up by local artists. The clouds cleared and the moon lit the rooftops, which made the reflections on the Saône and Rhône even stronger. It is one of those evenings where you look in every direction because there is always something happening.
If you go, start early so you can see the installations before the biggest crowds arrive. Many of the best pieces are spread around Presqu’île, so comfortable shoes help. Warm drinks are easy to find at pop up stands, and the quays make good places to take a break between the displays.
Lyon knows how to sparkle, and Fête des Lumières is the moment the whole city shows it.
