On this day in 1966, the Cream LP “Fresh Cream” was released (December 9)
The legendary trio’s debut studio album was a pivotal release in the history of blues rock, inspiring many bands in a number of rock genres through the decades.
On the charts, it went to #4 in Finland, #6 in the UK, #10 in Australia, #20 in France, and #39 in the US.
In 2012, the album was ranked #102 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of all time (the highest-ranking album by Cream on the list).
In 2019, Classic Rock ranked it fourth in their list of the best British blues rock albums ever.
Many prominent artists in the mid-1960s by rock artists included a Willie Dixon song on their debut albums, including Jeff Beck, Canned Heat, the Doors, Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin, Hawkwind, and The Rolling Stones.
Cream recorded Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful” for the original UK release of “Fresh Cream”

Menthon-Saint-Bernard castle 🏰
Menthon-Saint-Bernard castle is a medieval castle located in the commune of Menthon-Saint-Bernard, 12 km south of Annecy, in the Haute-Savoie department.
Set on a rock 200 meters high, it has towers that look towards Lake Annecy, the Roc de Chère national nature reserve, and Menton-Saint-Bernard.
It has been on the list of historical monuments of the French Ministry of Culture since 1989.
The first fortress was built in the 10th century, around 923; it was originally a simple wooden guard post, located on a promontory overlooking the ancient Roman road and Lake Annecy.
The current building was built between the 13th and 19th centuries.
Saint Bernard of Menton, the patron saint of skiers, was born in the castle in the 11th century (1008).

Fantastic towers, turrets and slate roofs with lead spires of Chateau de Jumilhac – one of the castles Richard Lionheart was so eager to seize during the first Anglo-French conflict.
The castle in the town of Jumilhac-le-Grand in Périgord Vert, in the north-east of the Dordogne department is now privately owned. It is under permanent restoration and open to visitors.
The current castle was built on the site of an old fortified fortress in the XIII - XIV c. It was remodeled during the Renaissance and later restructured.
Interestingly, Antoine Chapelle, a wealthy local ironmaster, married Marguerite de Vars, the heiress of half the domain of Jumilhac, in 1579.
He financed Henri de Bourbon in his quest for the throne of France. When he became King Henri IV, Antoine received the title of Count of Jumilhac.

Paul Young’s debut solo album was a beauty, and a worldwide hit…
It was #1 in the UK for 5 non-consecutive weeks, and stayed on the charts there for a massive 119 weeks, also topping the charts in Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, and peaking at #2 in Japan and Spain, #3 in New Zealand and Norway, #4 in Austria, #6 in Denmark, #7 in Finland, #12 in Australia, and #79 in the US.
Initially, the first two singles, "Iron Out the Rough Spots" and a remake of "Love of the Common People", had no success, but the third, a cover of the Marvin Gaye classic "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)", was #1 in the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in July and August 1983, and the first of Young's 14 British Top 40 singles.
In the UK, the follow-up single "Come Back and Stay" reached #4, and the re-release of "Love of the Common People" made it to #2 in late 1983.
