🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1976, the Bob Seger single “Night Moves” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #85 (December 11) Seger’s coming-of-age classic from his LP of the same name, is as good as any rock song in history at conjuring up those feelings of teenage love, angst, and wonder. Young and free, ten foot tall and bulletproof, but paradoxically at the same time “tryin’ to lose those awkward teenage blues”… Aaah yes……”I remember, I remember”…. Seger described writing it: “It was inspired by the movie American Graffiti. It was all about cars and peg pants and rolled-up T-shirts with a cigarette pack up here and stiletto pointed shoes. That's how I grew up, that was my high-school years. It was the easiest song in the world to write but the hardest song to finish. It took me six months to finish it. I had the first two verses. Then I'm listening to Born To Run and I notice in "Jungleland" Bruce had a double bridge. I never thought of two bridges in one song. So I have two bridges in "Night Moves." People at Capitol Records told me after they heard the song "Night Moves" that I had a 'career record". They said: ‘This is a song that you're gonna have to play for the rest of your life.’” It was responsible for changing Seger from being a popular regional favorite into a national star, going on to peak at #4 in the US, #5 in Canada, #25 in Australia, and #39 in New Zealand. Seger has claimed that "Night Moves" is his favorite song he ever wrote, and that he continued to try and replicate it years afterward. It was named by Rolling Stone as Best Single of the Year for 1977, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame named it one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll, Bob Seger's only selection in the list. In 1994, nearly 20 years after the original song was released, an official accompanying music video was released. Matt LeBlanc starred in the video prior to his debut in “Friends”, and later claimed that he was drunk through the whole video, having shared a bottle of tequila with Seger in the musician's motorhome immediately before the shoot! #bobseger, #nightmoves, #classicrock, #70srock, #70smusic, #classicalbum, #comingofage, thisdayinrock, #rockmusic, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #rockandrollhalloffame, #mattleblanc "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The image shows a size comparison of the lower jawbone (mandible) of the extinct ape Gigantopithecus blacki with that of a modern-day gorilla. image Gigantopithecus was the largest ape to ever live, estimated to be up to 3 meters (about 10 feet) tall and weighing over 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds), significantly larger than modern gorillas. image Gigantopithecus blacki was a giant extinct ape from Asia, and is a popular candidate in cryptozoology for inspiring Yeti legends, as it was huge (up to 10 ft tall), lived relatively recently (until ~100,000 years ago), and overlapped with early humans, making its memory plausible in folklore. While it's a compelling link for the Asian Yeti, its connection to North American Bigfoot is less direct, though some speculate it crossed the Bering Land Bridge. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1976, the 10cc single “The Things We Do For Love” debuted on the UK Singles Chart at #37 (December 11) The single was the band’s first release after the departure of co-founders and creative songwriting team Godley and Creme. In a Songfacts interview with 10cc bass player Graham Gouldman, he talked about writing this song with the band’s guitarist Eric Stewart: “When we started writing that, we had some of the music and he wanted to write a song about suicide," Gouldman said. “I told him that was not a good idea and fortunately he agreed. He came up with the title 'The Things We Do For Love,' which is very up and a great title really. What are the things we do for love? What do you do? What should we do for love?" The lyric was based on Stewart's real-life experience. "I remember walking through the rain and the snow when I lived in Manchester and we didn't have a telephone," he said in a BBC Radio Wales interview. #I had to go and find a phone box to ring the girl who was about to become my wife. The phones were down, and it was snowing, and these, these vivid pictures are there. If you put them in a song, a lot of people identify with a similar situation." It turned out lots of people did, as the song became a hit around the world, going all the way to to #1 in Canada, #2 in Ireland, #5 in the US and Australia, #6 in the UK, and #13 in the Netherlands. This is the only 10cc song released in both the UK and the USA to chart higher in the US than the UK. The track was later included on 10cc’s 1977 album “Deceptive Bends”. #thethingswedoforlove, #10cc, #grahamgouldman, #ericstewart, #70smusic, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #deceptivebends "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

This historic vehicle was a Grand Prix racing car developed by Auto Union (a predecessor of Audi) in Germany. Powered by a mid-mounted 16-cylinder engine, it was driven by Bernd Rosemeyer to set several world speed records, including exceeding 400 km/h (248 mph) on a public autobahn for the first time. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE Click on the link below to watch a live clip from a few months before their final show: On this day in 1982, The Jam played their last ever live gig, in Brighton, England (December 11) On a miserably wet and overcast Saturday night on 11 December in 1982 at Brighton’s Conference Centre (reportedly Paul Weller’s favourite venue at the time), the advertising hoarding on the front of the building read ‘The Jam’s Last Concert’. The place was packed as the Jam went through their paces one last time, playing favourites like “Down in the Tube Station at Midnight” and “Town Called Malice”. But maybe because the doors were thrown open and a number of skinheads crashed the party, or the tension between the band members (Bruce Foxton and Weller were barely talking by that stage), or the large number of broken strings, or the bottles thrown on the stage, this was not the amazing final sendoff the band deserved. Their previous appearance, a few days before at Guildford, close to their hometown of Woking was, by all reports, a much more fitting finale before family and friends. According to Foxton and Rick Buckler in their biography ‘The Jam: Our Story’, Brighton was slotted in to satisfy ‘monetary reasons’. It’s a shame it wasn’t a brilliant finish, because The Jam were one of the most important and significant bands coming out of England in the late 70s/early 80s, and were renowned for their live performances. They released 18 consecutive Top 40 singles in the United Kingdom, from their debut in 1977 to their break-up in December 1982, including four #1 hits. They released one live album and six studio albums, the last of which, “The Gift”, hit #1 on the UK Albums Chart. When the group disbanded in 1982, their first 15 singles were re-released and all placed within the top 100. Weller went on to have success with The Style Council, while Foxton later joined Stiff Little Fingers. Foxton and Buckler both played in The Gift and From The Jam. A bootleg recording of the final show at Brighton is in circulation. The photo is from that final show, along with a ticket stub. #thejam, #brucefoxton, #rickbuckler, #postpunk, #newwave, #paulweller, #rockhistory, #thisdayinrock, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
