On this day in 1983, the Pat Benatar single “Love Is A Battlefield” peaked on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #5 (December 9)
“Love Is A Battlefield” was written by Holly Knight and Mike Chapman, who also combined to write “The Best”, which was a hit for Tina Turner, and again in Australia for Tina Turner and Jimmy Barnes.
Songwriting Hall of Famer Knight also co-wrote Scandal’s “The Warrior”, while Chapman is half of the Chinn/Chapman songwriting team that wrote a plethora of hits for artists around the world.
The song from the “Live from Earth” LP was a beauty, spending 5 weeks at #1 in Australia, and 4 weeks at #1 in the Netherlands, making it one of the biggest selling songs of the year in those countries.
It also went to #2 in Canada, #3 in Germany, #5 in the US (tied with "We Belong" as her highest-charting single there), #6 in New Zealand, #9 in Ireland, #11 in Switzerland, and #49 in the UK.
In 1984, the song won Benatar her fourth consecutive Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, and the video was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.
“Love is a Battlefield” was ranked at #30 in VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 1980s…
The MTV favourite was one of the first clips to feature dialogue not involved in the actual song, and struck a chord with teenagers everywhere as Benatar plays the girl who’s had enough and runs away from home (even though she was 30 in real life at the time!)

What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information.
Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture.
Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy.
As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions."
"In 1984", Huxley added, "people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure."
In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us.

Beersel Castle is a medieval castle located in Beersel, Flemish Brabant in Belgium. Built around 1300 today it is considered one of Belgium’s best-preserved castles. The castle has 3 large towers and one small tower. There’s an interesting fact about the castle - in 1877 Victor Hugo visited Beersel and wrote a short poem about the castle.
Beersel was never converted into a lavish residence like was the case with many other castles. Due to this fact it can be deemed as a great example of a fortified castle. By the end of the 19th century the castle was in a dire state – all of the roofs caved in. It was only some 30 years later that large-scale restoration work commenced.

“People seem to be getting dumber and dumber. You know, I mean we have all this amazing technology and yet computers have turned into basically four figure wank machines.
People... they don't write anymore, they blog. Instead of talking, they text, no punctuation, no grammar: LOL this and LMFAO that.
You know, it just seems to me it's just a bunch of stupid people pseudo-communicating with a bunch of other stupid people at a proto-language that resembles more what cavemen used to speak than the King's English.”

There is a very simple, but largely overlooked factor in the martial arts, and in the effective use of the body in striking.
This factor is, firstly that speed of technique relies on firing the right muscles, and relaxing the opposing muscles at the right time.
For example, when you throw a straight punch, it’s the tricep muscle that should contract, whereas the bicep stays totally relaxed. So speed, is a muscular phenomenon.
Whereas power is totally generated by the correct use of the joints. For example again, Bruce‘s power in his “1 inch punch” came from the aligning together of the ankle joint, the hip joint, the shoulder joint, and finally the wrist joint.
So true effectiveness in Jeet Kune Do, relies on both muscular and joint usage. Therefore getting these two physical aspects working together, is the way to achieve the ultimate in results.
