🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE image This song still resonates with me now, and made a big impact on my eighteen year old mind when it first was released. Subliminally, it changed the course of my life and my way of thinking. Fast Car Tracy Chapman ‧ 1988 You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere Maybe we make a deal Maybe together we can get somewhere Any place is better Starting from zero got nothing to lose Maybe we'll make something Me, myself, I got nothing to prove You got a fast car I got a plan to get us outta here I been working at the convenience store Managed to save just a little bit of money Won't have to drive too far Just 'cross the border and into the city You and I can both get jobs And finally see what it means to be living See, my old man's got a problem He live with the bottle, that's the way it is He says his body's too old for working His body's too young to look like his My mama went off and left him She wanted more from life than he could give I said somebody's got to take care of him So I quit school and that's what I did You got a fast car Is it fast enough so we can fly away? We gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way So I remember when we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I-I had a feeling that I belonged I-I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car We go cruising, entertain ourselves You still ain't got a job And I work in the market as a checkout girl I know things will get better You'll find work and I'll get promoted We'll move out of the shelter Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs So I remember when we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I-I had a feeling that I belonged I-I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car I got a job that pays all our bills You stay out drinking late at the bar See more of your friends than you do of your kids I'd always hoped for better Thought maybe together you and me'd find it I got no plans, I ain't going nowhere Take your fast car and keep on driving So I remember when we were driving, driving in your car Speed so fast it felt like I was drunk City lights lay out before us And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder And I-I had a feeling that I belonged I-I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone You got a fast car Is it fast enough so you can fly away? 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1983, the Nena single “99 Luftballons” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #74 (December 10) In the US, the English-language version did not chart, while the German-language recording became Nena's only US hit, eventually peaking at #2. The German version “99 Luftballons” went to #1 in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Germany. The anti-war song lost a bit in the English translation, but the English version topped the charts in the UK, Canada and Ireland. It was to be Nena’s only UK hit… I wasn’t the only one that preferred the German language version… From the outset, Nena lead singer Gabriele Kerner and other members of the band expressed disapproval of the English version of the song, "99 Red Balloons". In March 1984, the band's keyboard player and song co-writer Uwe Fahrenkrog Petersen said, "We made a mistake there. I think the song loses something in translation and even sounds silly." In another interview that month, other members of the band were also quoted as being "not completely satisfied" with the English version. The lyrics of the original German version tell a story of 99 balloons, which are mistaken for UFOs, causing a general to send pilots to investigate. Finding nothing but balloons, the pilots put on a large show of fire power. The display of force worries the nations along the borders and the war ministers on each side encourage conflict to grab power for themselves. In the end, a cataclysmic war results from the otherwise harmless flight of balloons and causes devastation on all sides without a victor, as indicated in the denouement of the song: "99 Jahre Krieg ließen keinen Platz für Sieger," which translates to "99 years of war have left no place for winners." The anti-war song finishes with the singer walking through the devastated ruins of the world and finding a single balloon…"'Denk' an dich und lass' ihn fliegen…” (or "Think of you and let it go…” #nena, #99luftballons, #80smusic, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #germanband "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image 🏰Schloss Tarasp. Tarasp Castle in Switzerland was built in the 11th century or even earlier and initially was just a ring wall protecting a chapel and a bell tower that also served as a watch tower. A large palace was built some 200 years later. The castle had long been the only Austrian castle in Switzerland, actually until the early 19th century when it was seized and taken to the Helvetic Republic and later on to the Canton of Graubünden – this is when its decline began. Actually some 200 years prior to this the castle survived two major blazes – the first one when local Protestants set it on fire and the second one when it was struck by a bolt of lightning. Restoration works were completed early in the 20th century by a private owner who died suddenly and failed to reside in the castles. His heir turned into a museum. In 2016 world famous multitalented multidisciplinary artist Not Vital bought it for some 7.9mn Swiss francs.
