🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Here stand the Swords in Rock (Sverd i fjell) monument, a powerful landmark at Hafrsfjord near Stavanger, Norway. Erected in 1983 by Fritz Røed, they commemorate the historic Battle of Hafrsfjord in 872 AD, when King Harald Fairhair united Norway into a single kingdom. These towering bronze swords are embedded firmly in the earth, their surfaces aged by the elements, showing the touch of time and the sea breeze. Each sword is unique, symbolizing the individual chieftains who once ruled these lands, now bound together in peace. The largest sword, adorned with a royal crown, represents King Harald himself. They rise not as symbols of war, but as emblems of unity and peace. The swords stand as a testament to the end of conflict, a reminder that even the most formidable weapons can find rest in the embrace of the earth, their blades forever stilled, their might transformed into a symbol of enduring tranquility. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE On this day in 1974, the David Bowie single “Changes” re-entered the US Billboard Hot 100 at #89 (December 7) Interestingly, the song we know now as a classic, with the distinctive piano riff was not a massive chart success. On its initial release in 1972 the song only charted in the US, and even then only made it to #66. This 1974 re-entry did slightly better, topping out at #41. It has gone down in history though, as one of Bowie’s finest; lyrically, vocally and musically, with the legendary Rick Wakeman on piano, and Bowie himself on saxophone! The song was ranked at #200 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2021. It is one of four of Bowie's songs to be included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and in late 2016, the American Recording Academy inducted the song into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2004, a new version of "Changes" by Australian artist Butterfly Boucher, featuring Bowie on additional vocals, was recorded for the soundtrack of the animated film “Shrek 2”, introducing a new generation of fans to the song. A quotation from the song was used as an epigraph for the classic John Hughes film The Breakfast Club (1985): ...And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware Of what they're going through... “Changes” was also the final song Bowie performed on stage before his death in 2016. #davidbowie, #changes, #70smusic, #bowie, #hunkydory, #70srock, #rockmusic, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #rickwakeman, #rockandrollhalloffame, #grammyhalloffame "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE This week in 1986, the Paul Simon single “Graceland” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #92 (December 6) The title track from his landmark album features backup vocals by the legendary Everly Brothers. Actress and author Carrie Fisher, Paul Simon's ex-wife, said that the song about a road trip to Elvis Presley’s iconic estate estate in Memphis, Tennessee following a marriage breakup, referred in part to their relationship. The song performed relatively modestly in the charts, peaking at #27 in Ireland, #35 in Belgium, #37 in New Zealand, #62 in Australia, #70 in Canada, #79 in the Netherlands, #81 in the US, and #98 in the UK. The song won the 1988 Grammy Award for Record of the Year. It was the lowest-charting song on any of the world music charts to win Record of the Year until the Robert Plant and Alison Krauss US non-charting song "Please Read the Letter" won the same award in 2009. It was listed at #485 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs in 2004. #graceland, #paulsimon, #80smusic, #grammyawardwinner, #grammywinner, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

It was preserved with an intact pine shaft and an iron arrowhead because the ice acted as a "prehistoric deep freezer," but it is now being exposed due to rapidly melting glaciers. image "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
