🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE “Dreamer”: On this day in 1974, the Supertramp LP “Crime of the Century” debuted on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart at #175 (December 7) After the commercial failure of their first two albums and an underwhelming tour, Supertramp were struggling… But Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson set about revitalizing the band, recruiting future longtime Supertramp members, US drummer Bob Siebenberg (at the time credited as Bob C. Benberg), English brass and woodwind player and singer, the charismatic John Helliwell, and Scottish bass player Dougie Thomson. Their record label, A&M, in particular A&R man Dave Margereson (who would become their manager for the next ten years), sent this new line-up to a seventeenth-century farm in west Dorset to rehearse their next album together. Davies and Hodgson had recorded approximately 42 demo songs, from which only 8 were chosen to appear on the album. "Asylum", "Rudy" and "Bloody Well Right" were written by Davies, "If Everyone Was Listening", and "Hide in Your Shell" were written by Hodgson, while "Dreamer", "School" and "Crime of the Century" are all Davies/Hodgson collaborations. "Dreamer" was composed by Hodgson on his Wurlitzer piano at his mother's house when he was 19 years old. At that time he recorded a demo of the song using vocals, Wurlitzer, and banging cardboard boxes for percussion. Hodgson recalled: "I was excited – it was the first time I laid hands on a Wurlitzer." Hodgson describes "School" as "my song basically" but admits that Davies wrote both the piano solo and a good deal of the lyrics. In a 2010 interview, Hodgson confirmed that the song was based on his experience at boarding school, and said of the girl's scream at the beginning of the song: “Everything, especially that scream that you're talking about just before the band comes in, does represent a lot... I mean, you know, school is a wonderful place. Obviously, it's a school playground but that scream does represent a lot more." “Crime of the Century” became Supertramp's commercial breakthrough, peaking at #4 in the UK and Canada, #5 in Germany, #12 in New Zealand, #15 in Australia, #17 in Switzerland, #19 in France, and #25 in the Netherlands. It was also an improvement over their previous sales in the US, but still only peaked at a modest #38. The classic album cover was done by Paul Wakefield, and was actually his first attempt at designing one! Pretty impressive! In 1978, Crime of the Century was ranked #108 in The World Critic Lists, which recognised the 200 greatest albums of all time as voted for by notable rock critics and DJs. In 2015 “Crime of the Century” was chosen as the 27th greatest progressive rock album of all time by Rolling Stone. #supertramp, #crimeofthecentury, #dreamer, #rogerhodgson, #rickdavies, #johnhelliwell, #dailyrockhistory, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #70smusic, #classicrock, #progrock, #rockhistory, #progressiverock, #school, #rockmusic, #classicalbum, #bloodywellright, #thisdayinrock, "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️

🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE “Imagine” live: On this day in 1980, John Lennon was murdered ( December 8 ) He passed away aged just 40. At approximately 5:00 p.m. on 8 December 1980, Lennon autographed a copy of “Double Fantasy” for fan Mark David Chapman before leaving The Dakota with Yoko Ono for a recording session at the Record Plant. After the session, Lennon and Ono returned to their Manhattan apartment in a limousine at around 10:50 p.m. EST. They exited the vehicle and walked through the archway of the building when Chapman shot Lennon twice in the back and twice in the shoulder at close range. Lennon was rushed in a police cruiser to the emergency room of Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 11:15 p.m. Lennon was arguably the most important and influential songwriter in the history of rock, and his songwriting partnership with fellow Beatle Paul McCartney was prolific and profound in its effect and influence. As performer, writer or co-writer, Lennon had 25 #1 singles in the US Hot 100 chart. Between 2003 and 2008, Rolling Stone recognised Lennon in several reviews of artists and music, ranking him fifth of "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" and 38th of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time", and his albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, 22nd and 76th respectively of "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". The kingdoms agreed to be led by Denmark's monarch preserving autonomy broad at the same time. The union did not last forever - just for some 120 years - and ended with insolvency. The medieval castle was originally just a tower that was later expanded. A curtain wall was added as well as towers. Later on another line of defenses was added. By the 16th century the medieval fortress demanded urgent attention and had to be rebuilt in the splendid renaissance style - that's when corner towers appeared. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Bruce Lee and the Quest to Master Every Weapon in the World Bruce Lee is remembered as the man who redefined martial arts, but few fully grasp the scope of his ambition. He didn’t limit himself to Wing Chun or any single style; he embarked on a relentless journey to understand every weapon and fighting system he could find. From Karate and Judo to Jujutsu, he studied striking, throwing, and grappling. He explored Eskrima, the Filipino art of sticks and blades. He studied Western Boxing, learning footwork, head movement, and timing. He even delved into Fencing, fascinated by its speed, angles, and efficiency in weapon control. Every session, every sparring partner, every manual was an experiment. Bruce was trying to answer one question: How do you extract the most effective techniques from all martial arts and combine them into a system that works in real combat? The result: Jeet Kune Do, his revolutionary philosophy and style. But his approach sparked debate that persists today: Supporters argue that Bruce Lee was the first to advocate true integration of martial arts—a precursor to modern MMA. His research into weapons and styles made his system unmatched in adaptability. Critics claim he spread himself too thin, that mastery of one style is superior to superficial knowledge of many, and that Jeet Kune Do, while brilliant, lacked traditional depth in any single weapon. Still, there’s no question that Bruce trained harder, broader, and more obsessively than almost anyone in history. Students who trained with him recall nights spent learning stick fighting, hours dissecting Japanese sword techniques, and endless experimentation with knives, staffs, and improvised weapons. He wasn’t collecting tricks—he was inventing a new martial language, where efficiency, adaptability, and reality were paramount. The controversy remains: was Bruce Lee a weapon master of the world, or a brilliant experimenter whose vision could never be fully realized? The evidence, however, speaks for itself: his influence spans continents, disciplines, and decades. "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Best Food City to visit in 2026: Naples, Italy 🇮🇹 Check the full list: www.tasteatlas.com/best/cities image TasteAtlas crowned Naples as the best food city in the world for 2026, ranking first among 18,828 cities in its database, based on 590,228 valid food ratings for 16,357 foods. image Naples, regarded as the birthplace of pizza, is home to one of Italy’s most influential culinary traditions. Neapolitan pizza, known for its thin, airy crust and minimal, high-quality toppings, remains the city’s most iconic dish. The city is also known for pizza fritta, a deep-fried street classic served simply in a sheet of paper, as well as pastries such as the famous sfogliatella. image However, Neapolitan cuisine goes far beyond these staples. Traditional dishes like Spaghetti alla puttanesca, with its bold mix of tomatoes, olives, and capers, and Spaghetti alle vongole, showcasing the region’s coastal roots, reflect a culinary identity shaped over centuries. image In Naples, the dining experience is elevated by the city itself - its bustling markets, open-air kitchens, and chefs who preserve long-held techniques while giving each dish a distinct local character. image Photo credits: David Antosiak, @giovannaryan, @sfogliatelleattanasio, @cagliari_food_on "Pure signal, no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- THE DOOMSDAY DJ: TUNES FOR THE POST APOCALYPSE “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”: On this day in 1968, the Beatles self-titled LP known as the White Album debuted at #1 on the UK Albums Chart (December 7) The plain white cover was a massive and deliberate visual contrast to their previous LP “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band”. This was also the last Beatles album to be mixed separately for stereo and mono. Most of the songs for the album were written during a Transcendental Meditation course with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India, between February and April 1968. "Regardless of what I was supposed to be doing," Lennon later recalled, "I did write some of my best songs there." It features Beatles favourites like "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (featuring Eric Clapton on lead), “Dear Prudence”, and “Back in the USSR”. The double LP covers a wide range of genres, and interestingly only about half of the tracks feature all four band members performing. It was the Beatles only studio double album, and despite George Martin suggesting they reduce the number of songs to form a single album featuring their stronger work; the band refused. Whilst George Harrison agreed with the double album concept at the time, later he reflected that some tracks could have been released as B-sides or withheld, but "there was a lot of ego in that band." Ringo commented that the album should have been two separate records, which he jokingly called "The White Album" and "The Whiter Album". McCartney said that the record was fine as it was: "It was great. It sold. It's the bloody Beatles' White Album. Shut up!" The sessions for the album highlighted increasing tensions within the band, and also marked the first appearance in the studio of Lennon's new domestic and artistic partner, Yoko Ono, who was thereafter a more or less constant presence at Beatles recording sessions. As a result of these tensions, Ringo abruptly left the studio on 22 August during the session for "Back in the U.S.S.R.", feeling that his role in the group was peripheral compared to the other members, and upset at McCartney's constant criticism of his drumming on the track. In his absence, McCartney played the drums on "Dear Prudence". For "Back in the U.S.S.R.", the three remaining Beatles each made contributions on bass and drums, and the drum part is a composite of Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison's playing. Ringo returned a couple of weeks later, but the band lasted less than two more years before splitting. The Beatles album spent nine weeks at #1 in the US, and a massive 215 weeks on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. It also topped the charts around the world in countries including the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Finland and Germany. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked The Beatles self-titled White Album at #29 on its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". #thebeatles, #beatles, #whitealbum, #thewhitealbum, #johnlennon, #paulmccartney, #georgeharrison, #ringostarr, #60smusic, #classicalbum, #dearprudence, #backintheussr, #rockmusic, #thisdayinrock, #rockhistory, #60srock, #dailyrockhistory, #fabfour, #thisdayinmusic, #onthisday, #whilemyguitargentlyweeps "Pure signal,no noise" Credits Goes to the respective Author ✍️/ Photographer📸 🐇 🕳️
