On this day in 1985, the John Mellencamp single “Small Town” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at #51 (December 2) Mellencamp wrote the song about his experiences growing up in a small town in Indiana, having been born in Seymour, Indiana, and living in Bloomington, Indiana, which, at the time of the release of the song, was larger. "I wrote that song in the laundry room of my old house," Mellencamp said. “I wanted to write a song that said, 'You don't have to live in New York or Los Angeles to live a full life or enjoy your life.' On this day in 1967, The Monkees single “Daydream Believer” went to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (December 2) The song written by John Stewart from the LP “The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees” went all the way to #1, and stayed there for four weeks. It was to be the Monkees' last #1 hit in the US. Stewart wrote "Daydream Believer" as the third in a trilogy of songs about suburban life. Yes, the same John Stewart who had a hit in 1979 with the single “Gold”, with Stevie Nicks on backup vocals.
