In 1924, Macy’s employees — mostly European immigrants — began the annual tradition of the Thanksgiving parade. Although it was canceled from 1942-44 due to the war, at the 1946 edition, featured in George Seaton's Miracle on 34th Street, Henri Cartier-Bresson captured a jovial crowd full of eager children. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- 🇸🇬 Kampong Lorong Buang Kok is a historic village and the last remaining "kampong" (traditional village) in Singapore. Also known as Kampong Selak Kain, this settlement was established in 1956, it represents a glimpse into Singapore's past with its rustic, traditional homes and community-oriented lifestyle, standing in stark contrast to the modern urban landscape. Founded in 1956 by a Chinese medicine seller, it was built on former swamp land that was prone to flooding. The name "Selak Kain" (to hitch up a sarong or skirt) came from the need to wade through water to get home. The village is a rare relic of Singapore's past, consisting of around 28 homes with a close-knit community. Like other historical sites, Kampong Lorong Buangkok faces the threat of modernization and urban expansion.
