🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image Located off the southern coast of Australia, Kangaroo Island is most known for it marsupial residents. But the aptly named Remarkable Rocks - wave-and sand-sculpted boulders overlooking the island’s white-sand beaches (that dusting of orange is from rust-colored lichens) - are not to be missed. The island was devastated by bushfires in 2020, with much of the island’s precious habitat and wildlife impacted - though the land is resilient and life has been steadily returning ever since. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image While filming Giant in 1955, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean found something rarer than fame: genuine friendship. image The two stars would stay up late into the night talking, and in Elizabeth, James found someone he could be entirely himself with, though she noted that the vulnerability was almost unbearable for him. “We would sometimes sit up until three in the morning," Elizabeth recalled, "and the next day he would just look straight through me as if he'd given away or revealed too much of himself." image James died tragically at the end of filming, but Elizabeth held their sacred bond of friendship firmly in her heart for the rest of her life. 🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️ -THE BORACAY ISLAND LIFE- image The 9th Arrondissement, Paris, France The Opéra Garnier is one of those Paris landmarks that feels grand even before you step inside. Built in the late 1800s for Napoleon III, it took more than a decade to finish and became the centerpiece of the city’s new theater district. The architect, Charles Garnier, designed it with layers of marble, sculpture, and gold that were meant to impress from the moment the doors opened. One of the most interesting parts of visiting is the Grand Staircase. It was created as a place to see and be seen, and nineteenth-century audiences treated it almost like a stage of its own. You can still picture the swirl of opera gowns and top hats on the steps. Look up, and you’ll find the ceiling painted with opera scenes that were added later by Marc Chagall in the 1960s, a mix of color and movement that surprised many at the time. The main auditorium has deep red seats, crystal lights, and that ornate chandelier that once inspired Gaston Leroux when he wrote The Phantom of the Opera. The space feels intimate despite its size, and many visitors say the sound here is the best they have ever heard. If you take a tour, try to spend a moment in the foyer. It was designed to echo the style of a French palace and still carries that sense of theatrical glamour. The building is open to visitors most days, even if you are not attending a performance. It is quieter earlier in the morning and close to closing time. A slow wander through the staircases and galleries gives you a good sense of how opera once shaped social life in Paris.
