RE: I had to look up what this was about. There was a terrible hate crime, a shooting in Australia on the first day of Hanukkah. These hate movements have been normalized too much. https://www.reuters.com/world/australia-incident-live-media-reports-gunfire-bondi-beach-2025-12-14/ View quoted note →

The best thing about the holidays is you have so many opportunities to break out the sealing wax. image
So a friend of mine was telling me about this one strange thing his wife does. Whenever they get a gift of *food* and ONLY food (eg like a basket of cheese and crackers) she immediately goes about dividing it EXACTLY in half. "this is my part of the cheddar, this is yours" he isn't bothered about it just a little confused. She told him. "If you had siblings you'd understand." I suggested he may eat all the cheese and not notice. Can those with siblings speak on this? Are you traumatized?
How do you say "ambulance" ? "bue" here rhymes with "hue"
It's important to understand the cultural expectations of others. In the geology podcast I just found out that "when you date that rock you are dating the entire strategraphic layer" No wonder the whole damn mantle expects to come to my Christmas dinner! If only I'd known. But the heart wants what it wants I suppose.
What would happen if for *one day* you attempted to pay for all of the media you enjoyed. This would mean for each video you watched you'd try to find who really made it and pay what you thought it was worth in an ideal world? For each article you'd find the author. etc. Most media I enjoy is created by people who share it "for free" mediated by some service that attempts to add advertising. Only a tiny fraction is "big media" -- and this is more common than ever I think.
