In Australia they introduced a solar tax, because too much solar power getting put into the grid during the day was sending electricity prices too low for power companies to make a profit, and it overloading the grid. (Our grid runs on old coal fired power stations that take 18 hours to switch on or off) A Bitcoin mine would have solved the problem, just switch it on during the middle of the day when all the rooftop solar is pumping energy back into the grid. Instead, most new solar installations just dump excess power into the ground once batteries are charged. Meanwhile, building huge industrial wind turbines, with 50 in the same location, but only 5 of them are spinning, the rest are locked, to stop the local substation exploding, because that's what would happen if they released the hand break on the other 45. Oh yeah and that area full of wind turbines and roads now, that was a pristine alpine forest full of endangered birds and marsupials before it all got cleared.
