Another epic fail of KYC in Thailand.
After the bank last time that blocked my account when I was abroad, today was my BTS card.
So, I couldn't use the metro... Because I didn't have my passport 🤦♂️
Of course, the employee couldn't do anything, because it's "company policy" right - she didn't even accept my driver license to complete KYC.
Once again, without any prior communication, I get blocked. Any funds on my transportation card are frozen.
I need to go to the office with my passport to unblock it...
I'm pretty sure it's only for foreigners, as they required my passport.
We need to do something against these stupid policies... That's revolting.
In the end, I used cash and bought a ticket. So, I traveled anyway, without KYC 🤷♂️
Make it make sense.

I pay cash whenever I can. I don't care about convenience. Thailand seems less attractive these days.
Maybe that's the way to go forward.
It's just annoying to queue every time you need to travel.
How do you not have your passport as a travelling person? Are you an illegal?
Do you have your passport at all times in the country where you live legally?
Yes?
My passport doesn't go on holiday when I get residency lol
What do you mean? Have you lost your passport? You can just say you lost you passport,
If you don't get what's wrong with that situation, I don't have time to explain it, sorry.
WTF ?!
I suppose the BTS card is the transportation card, right? So much friction, but you have made the right (only?) choice.
Unfortunately tourist/expat-bashing is a low-risk strategy to get people your way. Looks like Thailand is pushing it to the next level, maybe some elections are not far 🤔
It seems to me they are testing and measuring for future updates and control grids. They inconvenience the expats as its smaller amount and they will learn the pushback and complaints for later control grids they will apply.
Yeah, as they're doing in the US, it seems. I wonder if they get the feedback, though.
My bank obviously didn't care one bit.
I haven't been to the office to get my money back, yet. But I'd love to give some feedback...
