I understand that the dominant ideology here is anarcho-capitalism, which I personally criticize and see little to no benefit for society. To me, it's an extremely individualistic ideology that fails to redistribute power and resources to the people. However, I truly enjoy being in a community where people hold opposing views. As a storyteller, experiencing different views on life nurtures me. Being surrounded *only* by like-minded people would be boring to me. It would be my personal hell, to be honest.
As long as everyone is kind, I'm happy.

I think we agree here on the mechanics, just maybe not the morality. Anarcho-capitalism absolutely fails to redistribute power and resources. Those on ancap side argue that is exactly the point because redistribution is theft and theft can only occur under threat of violence and violence is only ever justified for self defense or in defense of those who cannot defend themselves. See:the non-aggression principle. State violence is still violence. In fact, try this exercise: write out a list of the ten worst atrocities in human history according to your morality. How many could have happened without a state monopoly on violence?
Glad youβre here. I welcome people exploring different ideas.
Yes, many bloody events, genocides, wars, and mechanisms of oppression throughout history were carried out by the state. However, I believe the root cause is not the existence of the state itself but the concentration of power in a single entity. Therefore, the absence of the state and allowing private property owners to freely shape society will not free people from state violence. On the contrary, my prediction is that a certain eliteβthe wealthy and the powerfulβwill continue to strengthen and maintain their dominance.
And thanks! I also enjoy exploring different perspectives on life.
I agree that there is not a lot of evidence for ancap philosophy working in practice. That is because nature fills a vacuum and so absence of state power will always be filled. There is endless evidence that all governments (left and right) eventually get captured by bad people and devolve to violence. Violence is the language of the state when under threat and when unopposed. It comes at least once a generation like clockwork. Maybe, just maybe Bitcoin can act to fill the void left by governments. Rules without rulers can only work if we can enforce those rules without empowering despots. Because of Bitcoin this may be the first time in human history ancapism can truly work. And why not try. We know the alternative leads to blood and tyranny.
I completely agree. I still remember the excitement and emotion I felt when I first researched Bitcoin. For me, itβs definitely a perfect alternative to our current problems, and I know we are still in Bitcoinβs early, archaic phase. In the future, it will continue to be much more useful and impactful.
I think the anarcho-capitalism is the catalyst to take the runaway money away from our irresponsible government and put it back in the hands of the people.
Eventually the deflation of btc and inflation of fiat meet and without a way to print itself into relevance the government will have no choice but to downsize and adopt a more libertarian inspired regime.
Until then welcome to the angry mob of nostriches on a drunken style bender of hoarding magic internet money!
My main concern with anarcho-capitalism is whether there is a mechanism to prevent certain elites from gaining even more power while redistributing wealth from the government to the people. The reality is that for the wealthy, becoming even wealthier is far easier and more achievable due to the power and resources they already control.
When I think about a mechanism of prevention, I think about the work I need to do to educate myself enough that I can reduce the impact of nefarious characters from taking advantage of my resources.
This takes a lot of brain power with fiat. It takes significantly less with bitcoin.
Absolutely, Bitcoin is definitely an excellent solution for redistributing wealth from the government to the people in an efficient and decentralized way.
True on both counts. We are at that point where we know none of the big name ideologies work out generally, also, we have had enough history to know being kind is pretty important regardless of ideology
Absolutely, sometimes itβs really hard to be kind when discussing sensitive topics or issues you care about deeply. When opposing views are brought up, it can feel especially challenging. Iβm definitely not perfect either, but I try to practice kindness as much as I can. I believe kindness is above all ideologies, and I always try to remind myself of that.
This is exactly what nostr is for.
and I'm so glad to be here!
