Yesterday I found CodeFloe: A public Forgejo (Git server) instance that is open to any projects and users. Unlike Codeberg, it it not limited to Open Source licensed projects. If you were thinking "Codeberg is nice, but what about my personal closed-source projects?" - this might be a solution for you! The instance is hosted in Germany by "devYX GmbH", a swiss company. They're doing backups and are carefully designing their infrastructure. And they're very open about how it all works and what software they use. πŸ‘ https://codefloe.com #forgejo #opensource #git #hosting #devxy #codeFloe #codeberg #development #software
ive tried self-hosting #email at 2 points in life, a couple years each, but the chimerical tower of moving parts & protocols (MTA POP3 SMTP IMAP DANE...) is among the most annoying areas of the stack to deal with yet itstill among the most powerful tools in #FOSS: the most flexible tool for systematic #automation, #p2p #git, along with being the only means to truly develop a systematic global perspective of your #OS #maddy eases hosting woes by presenting all mail needs as a single #go binary
You could do all the fancy hashing and cdn lookups but i think thats still overcomplicated. There's no need to push the metadata or file hosting onto relays. All the relays need is the guid of the feed (its in plaintext, can't miss it) and the apps just need a library or template or git so it knows how to decode the tags. But I digress... it's self hosted and thats the key. If you want it distributed, put it on a blossom server and literally ctrl+v that in your RSS (a text file). Done.
So as you know I'm looking at repurposing an old Dell Optiplex 3080 tower as an #OpenBSD server. It's already got 32GB ram and a 1Tb NVME drive. I was thinking about adding some spinning rust for the data drive but I'm unsure whether to just add one hard drive as I'll be doing regular backups to NAS anyway. Or should I spend more purchasing two of the same drives for my usual RAID 1 setup like I did with my #FreeBSD server Beastie ? Was looking at ways saving some £££ but maybe it's not a good idea ? It would eventually be hosting the following if possible. Snac instance, static website, git with cgit, Radicale, Syncthing and maybe a few more much much later. #Homelab
I know, I know, there's still almost 3 weeks until the end of the year, but I also made a decision earlier that I'm going to write updates whenever I feel like it, and I've been browsing this year's statuses until I reached the summary of 2024, where I listed the following plans: - start using GRASP to develop itself - make it usable to people other than myself - publish it in F-Droid and/or Google Play Store - make a game for the Lisp Game Jam - write (and publish) an interactive e-book (as a GRASP app) and earn $$$ - implement the features mentioned at Causal Islands (a comic version of the A* search algorithm and a module browser) - possibly also integrate GRASP with git NONE of those happened, and even worse, I was unemployed for 4 months. Not that I wasn't doing anything. Conversely, I was almost constantly pushing myself to do something, to the point of a mania, but all those pushes sucked all the joy from the development, which is probably why I failed. I think my condition somewhat related to that of people who claim that they experience burnout - I felt that even doing relatively simple things required considerable time and effort. Despite all this, there is a number of things that I managed to do: - I made a 2d physics engine for GRASP - I wrote a self-hosting Scheme-to-Javascript translator (with macro expander) - I managed to employ my toolchain to publish an app in the Android store (although I failed to actually publish the app) There were also a few endeavours that were less successful: - I started writing an interactive book, and then stopped - I started repurposing my Quora answer as an interactive book, but also ran into obstacles that stopped me. I had some positive experience yesterday, though. I decided that I will write a new micro-iteration of GRASP, this time in JavaScript and for the browser. My further plan is to rewrite it to a Scheme flavor, enhancing my Scheme-to-JS translator along the way. But for the first time in a very long time, I had the sense that I was really getting somewhere.
UPDATE: We've completely revamped our Shared Hosting product. Each web space is now isolated which significantly improves security. We've replaced our previous Virtualmin control panel with the more user-friendly DirectAdmin. Additional features include: - Spam protection for all incoming emails - Virus protection for your web space - Daily encrypted offsite backups - Softaculous Web App Installer for tons of apps - PHP, NodeJS, and Python selectors - Git Manager Unlike most Shared Hosting providers, we don't have any limits on the number of domains, email addresses, or subdomains in place. Prices stay the same, no changes. https://mynymbox.io/sharedhosting
Domain: I would like to be able to pay in BTC, yes, that suits me. IDE: I would like to be able to get help from AI for my code, but without it doing everything for me. Hosting: I want a backend and a front end with multiple environments. By the way, I need to learn Git, so I'm going to speedrun my "arc dev" on Flash.
#10 🎁 Developer Tools / Guides, Updates and Releases 1. Relatr - New Developer Tool Relatr is a decentralized trust-scoring service designed for Nostr. It analyzes how closely connected users are within the social graph and blends that with additional profile-quality and validation signals. By combining these factors, Relatr generates personalized trust scores that help users better evaluate identities, filter content, and navigate the Nostr ecosystem with more confidence. Developed by: ContextVM-org Source: https://github.com/ContextVM/relatr 2. Nostr PHP - 1.9.3 Nostr-PHP is a PHP helper library that makes it easier for developers to integrate Nostr functionality into their applications. This release adds support for PHP 8.5 while deprecating PHP 8.1, replaces an abandoned ChaCha20 package to keep the library secure and maintained, and introduces a new example showing how to perform Vertex profile searches. These updates improve compatibility, security, and developer usability, making the library more dependable for modern PHP environments. Developed by: @Sebastix Source: https://github.com/nostrver-se/nostr-php/releases/tag/1.9.3 3. rx-nostr - @3.6.2 rx-nostr is a developer library designed for high-quality, flexible communication with multiple Nostr relays, enabling developers to efficiently send, receive, and manage events across the Nostr network. This update fixes bugs by resetting retry counts on reconnections and flushing requests that fail due to authentication issues, ensuring more reliable communication and fewer message delivery errors. Additionally, documentation typos were corrected, improving clarity for developers. These changes enhance stability, reliability, and developer experience when integrating rx-nostr into applications. This update adds a health check endpoint to monitor relay connectivity, improving reliability and easier troubleshooting for developers. It also removes executable permissions from the Docker entrypoint script, enhancing security and preventing accidental execution issues. These changes make deployment more stable, secure, and easier to maintain. Developed by: @kaiji Source: https://github.com/studiokaiji/nostr-webhost/releases/tag/v0.1.9 5. Gitplaza - v0.23.0 Gitplaza is a desktop Nostr client focused on managing Git repositories. This update adds a starred repos tab, organizes discussions, quotes, reactions, git events, reposts, and zaps under separate tabs, enables searching non-Git events, and allows editing the Blossom server list in the profile view. It also shows the starred repo count, fixes parsing of unusual e-tags, removes the "Posts" tab (replaced with "Other"), and upgrades dependencies for improved stability and performance. This was the latest release and there was also the release of v0.22.0 last week. Developed by: @npub1usek...k5ks Source: https://codeberg.org/dluvian/gitplaza/releases/tag/v0.23.0 #dev-tool_nostr_recap

Zig Quits GitHub, Says Microsoft's AI Obsession Has Ruined the Service The Zig Software Foundation has quit GitHub after years of unresolved GitHub Actions bugs -- including a "safe_sleep" script that could spin forever and cripple CI runners. Zig leadership puts the blame on Microsoft's growing AI-first priorities and declining engineering quality. Other open-source developers are voicing similar frustrations. The Register reports: The drama began in April 2025 when GitHub user AlekseiNikiforovIBM started a thread titled "safe_sleep.sh rarely hangs indefinitely." GitHub addressed the problem in August, but didn't reveal that in the thread, which remained open until Monday. That timing appears notable. Last week, Andrew Kelly, president and lead developer of the Zig Software Foundation, announced that the Zig project is moving to Codeberg, a non-profit git hosting service, because GitHub no longer demonstrates commitment to engineering excellence. One piece of evidence he offered for that assessment was the "safe_sleep.sh rarely hangs indefinitely" thread. "Most importantly, Actions has inexcusable bugs while being completely neglected," Kelly wrote. "After the CEO of GitHub said to 'embrace AI or get out', it seems the lackeys at Microsoft took the hint, because GitHub Actions started 'vibe-scheduling' -- choosing jobs to run seemingly at random. Combined with other bugs and inability to manually intervene, this causes our CI system to get so backed up that not even master branch commits get checked." <a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Zig+Quits+GitHub%2C+Says+Microsoft's+AI+Obsession+Has+Ruined+the+Service%3A+https%3A%2F%2Fslashdot.org%2Fstory%2F25%2F12%2F03%2F070228%2F%3Futm_source%3Dtwitter%26utm_medium%3Dtwitter" rel="nofollow"><img src="https://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"></a> <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fslashdot.org%2Fstory%2F25%2F12%2F03%2F070228%2Fzig-quits-github-says-microsofts-ai-obsession-has-ruined-the-service%3Futm_source%3Dslashdot%26utm_medium%3Dfacebook" rel="nofollow"><img src="https://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"></a> https://slashdot.org/story/25/12/03/070228/zig-quits-github-says-microsofts-ai-obsession-has-ruined-the-service?utm_source=rss1.0moreanon&utm_medium=feed at Slashdot. https://slashdot.org/story/25/12/03/070228/zig-quits-github-says-microsofts-ai-obsession-has-ruined-the-service?utm_source=rss1.0mainlinkanon&utm_medium=feed

Statism is no longer an option. We are here to show you the Agorist way. SHOWCASED TUTORIAL: Learn how to audit your own setup, to determine your Operational Security (OPSEC) Level, and find out what is the most appropriate internet use for it. BREAKING NEWS: Welcome to The Opsec Bible v2.0! We are now running mkdocs-material and all of our blogposts have been converted to Markdown to make it simplify the contribution process in the long run. With this new mkdocs blog version, we have completely changed how you can find blogposts that are relevant to your own situation. Thanks to the Mkdocs search plugin, you can now search for specific terms (ex:Tor, Monero, Anonymity, Deniability) in the search bar at the top to find the blogposts that are relevant to what you wish to know. Don't hesitate to combine search terms together to try and find what you need. What is the goal of The Opsec Bible ? In short, we're here to tell you why and how you can become ungovernable. Priority number 1: Solving the lack of education (no FUD, nor minimization fallacies) Priority number 2: Opsec advice applicable to 90% of the people out there, to defeat 99% of the risks Priority number 3: Simplifying the Opsec advice as much as possible to make it as easy to achieve as possible. Wall of Fame (as of May 2025) The Kicksecure Documentation : One of the actual backbones of OPSEC in general, making Privacy, Anonymity and even Deniability possible on the operating system level and explaining how they achieved it The Whonix Documentation : Another backbone of OPSEC, making Anonymity possible on the guest operating system level and explaining how they achieved it. The Hitchhiker's guide to Anonymity : The main inspiration for The Opsec Bible, an actual goldmine of information, even though i don't like how everything is in one page. Hackliberty Resources : Community centered around Anarchism, Agorism, and Cypherpunk in general. Dread /d/opsec : Dread being one of the largest darknet forums out there, their opsec board is a fertile ground for truth seeking Sam bent's youtube channel : Ex-darknet vendor, well versed in anything opsec-related, with solid background on the law in general. Monero Talk's youtube channel : Show focusing on growing the adoption of Monero to the masses. /biz/'s Monero Info Dump : Website explaining why monero is the ultimate cryptocurrency Wall of Shame (as of June 2025) Dread /d/opsec : Dread being one of the largest darknet forums out there, their opsec board is also (sadly) a fertile ground for disinformation campaigns and dishonest debates, so make sure you double check and challenge everything they claim in there. Forums are anyway not ideal to actually take you from A to Z when it comes to exploring entire fields of study like operational security. EDIT: the mods stopped caring apparently. PrivacyGuides : Sadly a far too popular community of privacy laxists, claiming that using closed-source software is supposedly suitable for private use. Techlore : Another privacy laxist community claiming that privacy is possible on Windows, or MacOS. PrivacyTools : Yet another privacy laxism community, claiming that privacy is possible on Windows +++ Onion (Tor) Link: http://opbible7nans45sg33cbyeiwqmlp5fu7lklu6jd6f3mivrjeqadco5yd.onion//opsec/
