🍊 orange update 🍊
So this is where things get a little more interesting.
Next I needed to figure out how to make the outside of the unit look good because right now it's just a very light white/brown structural wood (boringgg).
I spent a long time thinking about what the outside of the unit would look like, researching all kinds of materials, manufacturing methods, getting samples and... it... took... a... while. I decided on finishing the outside with some acoustic panels which are designed for walls but they can be used on my project after cutting them down to the right size.
Here we have some finished American Black Walnut veneered wood on a black acoustic felt backing. It looks gorgeous, helps with minimising sound, oozes warmth and pairs well with an orange glow. Just need to cut them to the right size. There is a small piece in the picture which was cut and sitting on top of the large sheet.
One issue is that of symmetry when applying these pieces to anything. I should of in the beginning designed the unit to the required size to ensure that when I apply these finishing pieces, that it should be easy to do. Instead I had to make a quite a few manual adjustments which are tedious/complicated to ensure it looks good on the outside (to keep the symmetry). However, I had no Fvking idea what I wanted it to look like when I started and I could not really imagine it at that point in time.
Good to know for next time though!

If you like the colours, zap it!
Attached the LED lights and custom fire/heat resistant light enclosures to all four vent areas.
Looking good! 😎

Next, I blacked out the outer vents.
1) Cut a few strips of metal tape.
2) Spray painted them all matte black (heat resistant paint).
3) Did x3 paint coats and waited between each coat to dry.
4) Cut to size and applied to the outer vent hole areas.
Will need to repaint again after sticking it down for full black coverage...
