Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has played down the importance of possession ahead of this evening’s showdown with Angola at Kasarani, insisting that the result is all that matters.
Angola enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in their 2-0 defeat to Morocco on Sunday, and McCarthy says he’d gladly let them dominate the ball again, so long as Kenya walks away with the win.
“I’m not bothered if we only see 30 or 40 per cent of the ball,” McCarthy said.
“Angola had almost 60 per cent against Morocco but still lost. At the end of the day, it’s not about how much you have the ball—it’s about what you do with it. For me, it’s the scoreline that tells the real story.”
