maybe my own information ecosystem perception is just wrong on threads
no wait i was just trying to figure out which churn rate you need starting with the assumption of currently equal DAUs. but 6% annual churn is ridiculously low for a microblogging platform, its much higher than that so these numbers are actually really good for threads it seems
so maybe 8% for threads is actually quite high in this context, once you factor in that twitter has incredibly high cultural saliency and threads having no cultural saliency
so im weaking my hypothesis that meta is doing some highly optimistic number counting, and im back to Threads mainly having an international nonwestern audience. which would also explain its low cultural impact on english speaking internet
this week's fediverse news is about how Newsmast is building apps for local news publishers that combines their articles with social media feeds, combining news with the fediverse into a single app connectedplaces.online/fediverse-re... Fediverse Report – #144
i really dont know whats going on here, but Threads only having 8% of us adults remembering it enough to say that they used it at least once is really fucking funny
some hypothesis: - pew measures adults only, so there is some amount of teenagers not included here - Threads most likely aggressively counts their Instagram integrations towards Threads MAU numbers as well - Europe likely not major part of numbers since it was unavailable here for so long
