Having lived in the same house for 30+ years, I can attest to jars of spices which lurk for *decades* at the back of the cupboard. Along those lines, I recently enjoyed some corned beef which was a few years beyond its "best before end" date. (I wouldn't have risked it if it had been a "use by" date.)
