Looking through old pictures. This is a photo from a festival I went to in late 2021 hosted with a hill tribe in Northern Thailand. We ate the hill tribeโ€™s local food, bathed in the stream, hung out with the cows and napped on piles of rice straw. And also listened to music all night on a set of incredibly epic Function One speakers. A blissful experience. โ˜€๏ธ image
Today's myth about Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ (#8) is that you can only stay here for 90 days. That is true for many tourist visas, but there are other options to stay for longer. - Education Visas: 1-year visas for studying Thai boxing, language, or culinary training; costs $1,000 to $2,000; renewable for a few years - Retirement Visa: Available for those over 50; renewable indefinitely; requires ~$20,000 in a Thai bank account - Elite Visa: Stay 5 to 20 years; costs start at ~$25,000; some agencies accept Bitcoin; no annual renewals - Digital Nomad Visa: Potential 5-year stay; requires minimum income of ~$14,000/year; details upcoming Don't sleep on Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ #ChiangMai #Thailand #siamstr
Todayโ€™s myth about Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ (#6) is that itโ€™s globally disconnected, making it hard to travel while basing here. Thankfully this isnโ€™t true โŒ, with one caveat. Bangkokโ€™s airports connect to over 120 cities across the globe with direct flights, including major hubs like Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Taipei. The city of Chiang Mai, with an airport thatโ€™s about 15 minutes from everything, connects directly to most Asian hubs allowing for one hop to Europe or the Americas. Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ is not quite Dubai ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช on global flights, but then again you arenโ€™t living in the middle of the desert ๐Ÿช #ChiangMai #Bangkok #Thailand #siamstr

Today's myth about Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ (#5) is that the infrastructure sucks. The truth is itโ€™s just as good if not better than what I was used to in the USA. Take a few examples: - Hospitals: private system is very efficient and cheap with great care. - Education: plenty of private intl schools with tuition around $4,000 a year (lot of variance here). - Transportation: Bangkok is connected to 100+ intl destinations, and Thailand has (checks wikipedia) 39(!) airports around the country. Round trip Chiang Mai to Bangkok is ~$60. Bangkok has 2 local train networks: BTS and MRT. And the road network across Thailand is vast - everywhere is reachable by car. - Shopping and Shipping: 1 day around Thailand, Shopee and Lazada are the Amazons of Thailand. - Internet: I pay $15/month for 100mb up/down on my phone, and $12/mo at home for 300mb up/down. Don't sleep on Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ What else about Thailand's infrastructure do you want to know? Drop a comment and I'll do my best to answer.

Today's myth about Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ (#4) is that it's dangerous here. This is probably the most laughable myth I've heard about Thailand. I understand why it exists: I grew up in the USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and the brainwashing that "everywhere else is poor and therefore dangerous" is strong... but you are more likely to die in your local grocery store in America than literally anywhere in Thailand. Thailand is by far the safest place I've ever lived in my life. There is virtually no violent or petty crime here. Imagine if the entire world was your living room - that's what it feels like to go anywhere in this country. Don't sleep on Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ
Today's myth about Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ (#3) is that there's no #Bitcoinย  community here. After 5 years in Thailand, I'm discovering that Bitcoin runs deep here. There are Bitcoiners everywhere, they're just low key about it! The Bitcoin scene among Thais is large and growing fast. The Bitcoin Standard is now the #2 book at Naiin, a major bookstore in Thailand. There's a 4,000 person Discord server in Thai language dedicated to all things #Bitcoinย , and the educational company @Right Shift has 30k YouTube followers and runs a global Bitcoin conference in Bangkok: v2 coming in September 2024. Also, check out the #siamstr community ๐Ÿ˜‰ Bitcoin physical spaces and meetups like @BOB Space by PlebPiccoloJr (you on Nostr?) and @Bitcoin Butler & Skater , Bitcoin Learning Center by @Jimmy Kostro in Chiang Mai and @npub1yyhn...xnuq in Phuket are also growing across the country.
