YouTube is now using AI to alter people's videos without permission. (There are threads about this at & etc) This is really disturbing and dangerous. It's more insidious than censorship because viewers cannot tell a video has been altered. If you post to YouTube, I'd strongly recommend you start ALSO posting to PeerTube, either on your own server or a public server. There's a complete guide here: ➑️ #PeerTube #YouTube
Fans of the iPhone/iPad Mastodon app Toot! can now finally get the updated version from the App Store πŸ₯³ :apple_old_logo: (This isn't the testflight, this is the full release version) Toot! is quite an unusual and quirky app, but that seems to be what has made it a favourite with many people. If you want to follow the developer's updates, they have an official account at @npub1gwrs...ajrm #Toot #Mastodon #iOS
If you know someone who wants to sign up on Mastodon and the Fediverse, you might want to suggest they use this site: ➑️ It's been reformatted to make it as easy as possible to sign up on a good reliable server. If someone finds choice overwhelming, it suggests a good general server (which changes regularly). If someone appreciates choice, there is a server directory with over 100 good servers organised into categories. There is also a FAQ about signing up. #FediTips
Verification on Mastodon and the wider Fediverse works differently to most social networks. Symbols like :verified: or βœ… or the word "verified" are NOT verifications as anyone can add them to their profiles. Verification on here works through special links on an account's official website. You can find out how to create a verified link in this guide: ➑️ For example we know @npub1su4t...a0dw is official as their profile has a verified link to their website. #FediTips
There's an excellent Masto tip by @npub12j3p...y6qj quoted below. To clarify a bit, you *can* mute conversations on other people's posts *if* the posts appear in your notifications. There are two scenarios where this isn't possible and the tip is needed: - If you follow someone and they reply to a person you also follow, you will see their entire conversation without notifications. This tip lets you hide it. - If you're seeing the same post boosted many times, you can use this tip to hide it. View quoted note β†’

By default, Mastodon prevents you seeing a boosted post again until 40 other posts have flowed through your timeline. There is more info at: ➑️ The 40 number is hardcoded into the Mastodon server software and currently cannot be altered. It seems to have worked better in the days when Mastodon was much quieter. If you're comfortable using Github, you can vote for this number to be adjustable at #FediTips #Mastodon
