Well, had 3 recent bitcoiners over. Had only used lightning. Went through full run from going through mempool and node and UTXO management and transaction stuff and followed with soft wallet, recovery, hard wallets and seed storage. Obviously served with a healthy dose of rib eye and aguja. My take away here is the best eye opener is to set up a wallet on their phone (we used blue), send 500000 sats to them and then delete the wallet. Watch the freak out panic. Let it stew for a second whilst finding the transaction on mempool.space and then recover the wallet. I found using a hardware device (trezor in this case) worked a charm at getting past the barrier of "where is it?" And helped understanding. Also instantly drive home importance of the seed phrase. A productive day and a happy belly!
Todays challenege. 4 students, node, mempool runthrough, self custody soft wallet, hard wallet, air gapping and Ecash in 5 hour workshop. Nothing like a good challenge on a Monday!
One of the interesting things watching a team go out and push bitcoin adoption is the friction of iniquitous understand and desire to take it within the establishments. The time to get an owner onboard is one thing but getting staff to understand and learn POS etc is definitely another. This is where spending is actually playing your part IMO. It’s an opportunity to try talking a bit to staff and assist with some of the learning burden and help spread curiosity. Only by seeing people arrive at establishments and be wanting to give custom in bitcoin will the staff generate enough curiosity to ask questions and in turn be more open to adoption. Take the time when the opportunity arises, and a larger Bitcoin economy opens up to you too. Decentralised only works through community
