The international milk price keeps falling because the world is over-saturated with milk. Prices at the Global Dairy Trade auction have now fallen nine times in a row.
Fonterra's consumer brands have traditionally helped smooth volatile milk prices, limiting the shock to farmers. But Chip n Dale cleverly voted to sell off those premium brands to the French in return for a one-off sugar rush.
When you factor in advances in plant milks, the future isn't looking that rosy for NZ dairy. Are we about to see farmers voluntarily reducing their herd sizes?
