Was just listening to a conversation between a VC and an author who writes about innovation, and they were discussing "why Elon couldn't successfully reform the government" and it was the dumbest conversation I've heard in a while. And I realized they were starting with the wrong premise...
They both took it as a given that Elon is one of the smartest, most innovative people on earth who could uniquely see through any problem. They did not, even once, consider that he's a monumentally lucky rich guy, who has no fucking clue about some fairly basic concepts.
They also, bizarrely, assumed that his intent in going into government was to actually make it more efficient. So that's two very, very bad premises that it didn't even occur to them might be incorrect. So it resulted in a bizarre conversation all around.
And here I was thinking "wait, RFK Jr. lives in South Carolina? I didn't think that was..." And then... oh....
Instead, he blames a dispute that takes place entirely in Argentina, in which every participant is an Argentinian person in Argentina... on an American law that is not applicable in Argentina. It's... bizarre. And it's not good journalism.
Once again, I'm a fan of the podcast which is why I find all of this bizarre and troubling. It's bad journalism. It's disastrously misleading advocacy. If I were @brihreed.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy, I would strongly advise taking a step back and talking to actual experts before continuing.
This is exactly the kind of thing I warned about with his approach to 230. He's decided on his solution before understanding any of the details and it leads to this weird hammer/nail situation where he'll rush to blame 230 for things that are absolutely unrelated to 230.
