#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 10 Is it ethical to base characters on real people? It's impossible for characters not to share some traits with real people. Reproducing someone entirely is different, but, unless you inform them, odds are they'd never know. Awful people would probably not recognize themselves as that type aren't so self aware. Probably better than hitting them with a baseball bat or something. πŸ˜† My series has a huge cast, but I've only done the "closely based" thing twice.
#WordWeavers Dec 10 Who is your most chaotic character? The current WIP is a sweeping saga where characters change over time, so that title would vary depending what point in the story you're in. Presently, I'd award this honor to Horatio Joi, who is young with a scary power he's not gotten a handle on yet. When he gets angry, everyone nearby gets carried along, unless they're warding. Full on brawls have been known to break out.
"I had to message you" said the scam artist. "Dear Author, Your book really caught my attention." And yet you don't know my name. πŸ€”
#PennedPossibilities 868 Happy memory β€œRai and I had a chat when I got back.” Jez tensed. β€œWhat did he say?” β€œThat I should let you live your life.” β€œOh good. Then I will.” He twirled and dipped me, then pressed me close. His heart beat faster. β€œI miss your presence. Your voice. Memories of the bluebonnets.” β€œYou’ve not lost any of that. If you don’t want.” I looked up. β€œThere is nothing I want less than to be apart.” He kissed me, in full view of his family, and I felt the magic take hold.
#WordWeavers Dec 9 Tell us about a romantic relationship a character has Maggie attends her friend's wedding & can't figure out his attraction. That woman is demanding & domineering. Yet Torkin "seemed thrilled to legally attach." "He looked distinguished in his modern tailored suit. That rugged beast mage had never given a thought to fashionβ€”I was fairly certain Kate had picked it out. His dark hair, with touches of silver, was tied smartly back, probably by her hands."
#WritersCoffeeClub Dec 9 Do you reuse certain words as a refrain or motif, or avoid repetition? Sometimes. The only example that comes readily to mind is a couple of characters have favorite sayings, one of which is the planned tagline for my final book. I think I've done this within some chapters too.
