📍Crypto Crimes & UK strategy 🎤 Andrew Snowden MP asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment has been made of police and enforcement capacity to investigate cryptocurrency-related crimes, including scams, ransomware payments, and illicit trading platforms. 🎤 In response, Dan Jarvis MP responded that the UK government has strengthened UK policing capabilities to tackle cryptocurrency-related crime effectively. 📍Capital Gains Tax on Crypto: 🎤 Andrew Snowden MP has raised a number of questions in Parliament on Crypto's potential risks to financial stability and also on the tax treatment of crypto. ➡️ On financial stability, Mr Snowden has asked the Treasury to assess the risks that cryptocurrency market volatility may pose to UK financial stability. 🎤 Economic Secretary Lucy Rigby KC MP said the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee continues to monitor market-related risks and that the government will introduce legislation this year to create a comprehensive regulatory regime for cryptoassets. ➡️ On Taxation, Mr Snowden also asked whether the Treasury plans to review capital gains tax treatment for crypto transactions to improve clarity and compliance. 📍Government to Tighten Political Donations Rules, including #Crypto Contributions 🎤 Responding to questions from Rt Hon Lord Roberts of Llandudno in the UK House of Lords regarding Party Political Finance rules, Treasury Minister Rt Hon Baroness Sharon Taylor of Stevenage said that the government will strengthen UK political finance laws to prevent foreign interference - including through crypto donations.
