Roughly 18 months ago I had a small survey. I asked whether you would change a content algorithm you made if you found out it made people hate each other. Most of you said yes. Since then things have sadly not improved. I have argued that we need to ban user profiling. That the cost outweigh any benefits. Facebook did not have an over-censorship problem. Facebook main problem was that its algorithms promote hate speech and disinformation, lately with the addition of inauthentic content. Fighting that through fact-checking is always going to be an uphill battle. This is the reason I believe that content algorithms have no place in social media and that user profiling should be banned. Spreading misinformation and hate speech is a lot harder without the amplification algorithms.

The Fediverse is unique. My survey asked what your favorite search engine is. 51% said DuckDuckGo, 12% Startpage, 9% Ecosia and 4% Qwant. Only 6% said Google and 1% Bing. 17% said they preferred another search engine, with many mentioning Kagi and Mojeek. This is quite different from what the market share out there is, which shows how unique you all are here in the Fediverse. You make your own choices and do not follow everyone else.
