Had my first PC death yesterday after 38 session in my spelljammer campaign. I was really really hesitant to do it, but at one point it just happened.
It was cathartic. There were so many emotions. The other PCs pulled out all their tools to try to mitigate it.
Now I'm planning a solo session with the player of that dead PC in the afterlife. It'll be a LOT of fun!
