I've been meaning to fully remove myself from Substack - I tried a few months ago but more people I know started publishing there and I stayed... I think this is the push I needed to follow through.
Foursquare are releasing Foursquare Open Source Places as an open data set, to be updated monthly under the Apache 2.0 license. Pretty big news for the geospatial and location data folks.
I have a feeling that the USB hub the Raspberry Pi folks unexpectedly dropped this week may be useful for the Pi 500? We know of Pi 500 and CM5 still to come, to add to their recent release train. Maybe Pico 2 W as well before EOY. What else could they surprise us with...
Thinking that, if Melon Husk ends up in some govt level role, I'm now more concerned than ever about sovereignty of online information and data. I'll just leave this here.
If you still have an account on X/โ€œTwitterโ€ - even if itโ€™s locked or private and abandoned - the new TOS over there apparently says theyโ€™re going to train AI on your posts from November, *and*, if you still do use it sometimes, they are breaking the block functionalityโ€ฆ so why not rip off that sticking plaster and finally delete it? I did. I deleted a *lot* of them (one of which I used for over 15 years). You can do it!

This is a great guide on how to join Mastodon by @npub1kqca...7wgd ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป it's a nice companion piece for anyone who has thought about trying it after seeing me on [@FLOSS_Weekly]( ) this week (although, if so, then you probably need to have seen this link elsewhere... so I will go share it elsewhere as well!)
We posted our monthly @npub1u84d...s78a team update, for a look at what changes went into the final 4.3 release - thanks @renchap (and the whole team for their work here!)
If you have any need to interrogate / explore USB devices, this CLI tool is *amazing*. Using it on both macOS and Linux here. Super impressive compared to lsusb etc (and compatible with the same output format if needed)
Mastodon 4.3 was shipped today ๐ŸŽ‰ I am working on a Trunk & Tidbits post covering last monthโ€™s engineering efforts (to post later in the week), and also a post about key changes for developers in 4.3 (likely to be published next week).
