The event “ accidentally ” coincided with Independence celebrations, and on the very day when anti-government demonstrations were taking place in the capital San Salvador. Organizers were using the messaging app to coordinate participants. This year, government censorship for Telegram in El Salvador had already been triggered twice, on the day of the President's inauguration and in July, to crack down on the Telegram group of CiberinteligentiaSV hackers, who have been very active in exposing alleged illicit and corrupt practices of the Salvadoran administration.
