I lived in Venezuela for a few years. I experienced countless, days long blackouts. It's a very humbling experience. It's one of the most demoralizing things I can imagine.
Yet, the effects it had on my awareness and preparedness in life I wouldn't trade for anything else. There's value in misery. I don't want anyone to experience what I lived, but hell I wish they could learn what I learnt without living it.
You should learn to live without electricity. If you simply shut off the power for a weekend and see how you get around your daily life, you will learn a lot.
