Why can't we just follow more and only see what people boost, instead of trusting algos will watch what we spend time on and send us more of that? The latter lets them also throw in stuff they want us to see and omit what they don't want us to see, even if we appear to be interested in it. In comparison, the former is also more social. It opens the door to us connecting with other humans based on what we share with each other. The revolution will not be algo-fed. #SocialWeb #DemocracyOfReach
@npub1nsua...uy0n so are you running on your own ATproto relay now? are many others? are there any differences/problems connecting to the entire network compared to running on bluesky's relay? can bluesky block you from connecting? thanks.
I'd say this is true of some usually Dem voters, but maybe less than we think. Lots of Republicans thought Trump had no chance in their primaries too.
Libertarians make a great point about not wanting the state to indoctrinate kids, but that danger exists no matter who does the edumacatin. Even those who try hard to avoid it will fail because we're all biased and uninformed on lots of shit. But many will intentionally create hardcore believers of some ideology, for selfish or what they see as inspired reasons. See how quickly some "freedom lovers" went MAGA for the sense of purpose and belonging it gave them.
#AI slop originates somewhere, just like bad journalism. Our problem is that big social platforms allow it to escape containment. That when you see it there and it goes viral thanks to their algorithms, we can't know the trustworthiness of the accounts that posted it. We're in the position to fix this by having anybody who wants to be trusted, run their own social media server like they do a website. Conservatives may not love the nytimes.com but they know it won't run fake images of Trump etc.
I'm streaming live video to the world without a middleman. That's crazy.
