We must better compare and contrast government services between localities and nations, to see what works and how it can be most efficient. Then also find a way to tax massive wealth such that they can't use financial instruments or move to avoid paying it. I hate these constant arguments about budgets when we should already know the best way to do government stuff and how to pay for it that works out best for everyone.
Libertarians and the left agree that big tech platforms are a problem. But do they even know we exist? #SocialWeb
"Taking the oil" is not a thing. What does happen: Get access w/o having to pay the people of that nation most of the profits and deal with labor and environmental standards cause the new govt is compliant to US interests. This profits the US corporations doing the work (political donors) and puts more oil in the market, lowering prices for Americans and giving us a way to prevent other oil nations from messing with supply and thus worldwide cost (huge driver of economic stability). #Venezuela
So many problems go away when there's no central corporate platform. There's no ad model that creates an incentive to spend all our time with them, make us think a certain way or trigger us to keep us engaged. The accounts become like websites in that they are not vouched for and we have to consider whether to trust them like we already do with URLs. And yet you still get all the other great parts of social media. At some point, this will be obvious, right? https://pca.st/episode/c7ba16b4-adcf-4dbd-844f-63ac7b2e47a9
Just using the #owncast app on Roku on my TV feels like a revolutionary act. Like the first time you put up a website or got your podcast to work. Connected to an indy online radio stream via URL. Or understood ActivityPub. It kinda forces me to imagine a world where all video is available this way. Maybe other people just don't feel that.
I'm watching this on my TV via Roku and the #owncast app. It's part of what I want for the #CCMusicClub. That we could help every online radio DJ do this. That we could help musicians broadcast their show. No corporate crap involved. CC @npub1rkp0...67lq @npub1gwu0...svwp @npub1jjf9...3axq @npub1g0cz...xxd0 @npub1h359...gz0l
