Agree on all points. I wish more of us were still having these convos. It shouldnโt be left just to devs to envision where all of this is going. Sadly, once the Elon hysteria faded, so did a lot of the mass-interest in decentralized social networks.

The fediverse passionately excites many of us, but I find thereโs a bit too much unfounded optimism about just how widely this model could propagate. The vast majority of social media users I talk to just retch at the whole decentralized model, based on a very brief but awkward Mastodon experience. And businesses are highly skeptical. We need to be realistic about the time this could all take to become truly mainstream.
