Live streaming @Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town all the way from #Kenya, listening to @Sabina . Her @Tando.me keynote, #Bitcoin as a medium of exchange across Africa. It’s time for Bitcoiners to listen to the people, not lecture them, and work together to find Bitcoin solutions for Africa.
What's your take on Bitcoin online education in Kenya? Statistically, Facebook is the most used platform here, with 16.5M users as of Jan 2024. Yet, from my posts about Bitcoin, many have no idea what it is, or they think it's a scam or pyramid scheme. Are we doing enough to educate? image
Breaking Barriers: My First Solo Solar Installation Experience In September 2021, I embarked on a journey that would forever shape my career in renewable energy. After a series of supervised installations under the guidance of Vincent mbae , our lead solar technician at Vinsol Renewables, I was ready to take the lead on my very first solo solar PV system installation. The site? Athi River. The challenge? A 4kVA system. I won't lie—fear and excitement were in equal measure as I prepared for the task. When I arrived at the client’s premises, tools in hand, I noticed the surprise in their eyes. They hadn’t expected a woman to show up as the lead technician. That moment sparked a fire in me to prove that women can excel in professional installations just as well as anyone else. With one assistant by my side, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. The project wasn’t without its challenges—tight deadlines, technical troubleshooting, and the occasional heatwave—but we completed the installation in just two days. The sense of accomplishment as the system powered up for the first time was indescribable. Balancing a career in a field often dominated by men while embracing motherhood has been both challenging and rewarding. I take breaks to focus on my family, and returning to work always feels like stepping into a world where I can push myself out of my comfort zone. Each installation is a new chapter, a new opportunity to grow, and a chance to inspire other women to pursue their passions, no matter the field. As a wife, a mother, and a solar technician, I’ve learned that challenges are universal in all lines of work. What matters most is the courage to rise above them, the willingness to learn, and the determination to leave a lasting impact. Looking back at that first solo installation, I realize it wasn’t just about setting up a solar system—it was about breaking barriers, shattering expectations, and lighting the way for other women to step into the world of renewable energy. To any woman out there dreaming of taking the lead in their career: believe in yourself, embrace the challenges, and know that you can do it all. Merry Christmas Nostr Family.🎄 This festive season, I wasn’t able to travel to Nakuru to celebrate with my family. However, purchasing something for them from the comfort of my home in Nairobi , paying through @Tando.me using my @Blink Wallet made me feel connected, as if I were right there with them. When @Sabina did her very first stage presentation introducing @Tando.me during the BITCOIN DADA Cohort 7 graduation, I was eager to ask her questions. In fact, I stood up almost immediately, only to receive Ksh. 200 worth of SATs from Tando directly to my M-Pesa line. That single experience answered all my questions! Tando had provided a solution to a challenge I had been struggling with in my line of work. As the On-Ground Manager at @Bitcoin Babies 🍼, I’ve been working on building a circular economy by onboarding merchants to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment. While I successfully onboarded more than 10 merchants, the most common challenge I faced was their concern about off-ramping: “After I’ve accepted Bitcoin from the mums in your community, how do I convert it to Ksh. so I can restock?” Tando solved this challenge for me. Thank you, @Tando.me team, for innovating such a sustainable solution for Bitcoiners in Kenya. Your work has made it seamless for those of us paid or receiving grants in Bitcoin to spend SATs. Merchants in our Kimbo circular economy can now restock effortlessly without stress. image

The Power of Community: A Safe Space for Mothers and Mental Wellness Today, we had a heartwarming meet-up with Doris Magiri ,a mental health specialist, and an incredible group of mothers. In African communities, mental health is often sidelined, yet it’s something we all need. Being a woman is hard. Being an African mother with no safe space to talk about mental wellness is even harder. Thanks to @Bitcoin Babies 🍼, this community , as mothers we not only connects and shares but also learns about #Bitcoin a tool for financial freedom—while prioritizing mental wellness. Every time we meet, I offload stress I didn’t even know I carried. The bond grows stronger, the conversations get deeper, and we even find time to dance! 💃 Mental health matters. Financial freedom matters. Community matters. Let’s keep building safe spaces where mothers can heal, thrive, and grow. #MentalHealthAwareness #Bitcoin #FinancialFreedom #CommunityMatters #MothersSupportingMothers
