📍Crypto Crimes & UK strategy 🎤 Andrew Snowden MP asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment has been made of police and enforcement capacity to investigate cryptocurrency-related crimes, including scams, ransomware payments, and illicit trading platforms. 🎤 In response, Dan Jarvis MP responded that the UK government has strengthened UK policing capabilities to tackle cryptocurrency-related crime effectively. 📍Capital Gains Tax on Crypto: 🎤 Andrew Snowden MP has raised a number of questions in Parliament on Crypto's potential risks to financial stability and also on the tax treatment of crypto. ➡️ On financial stability, Mr Snowden has asked the Treasury to assess the risks that cryptocurrency market volatility may pose to UK financial stability. 🎤 Economic Secretary Lucy Rigby KC MP said the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee continues to monitor market-related risks and that the government will introduce legislation this year to create a comprehensive regulatory regime for cryptoassets. ➡️ On Taxation, Mr Snowden also asked whether the Treasury plans to review capital gains tax treatment for crypto transactions to improve clarity and compliance.
