Tried some astrophotography again the other day, I think it turned out cool. Both images were taken with my Pixel 8a. To my fellow GrapheneOS users, it does now have the libraries built in to use Google Camera offline without Google Play services, which is the camera app I used to take these photos. If you're interested in trying something like this but can't/don't want to use G Cam: Deep Sky Camera or Open Camera + photo stacking software would also likely achieve similar results. Both are somewhat edited beyond the rather heavy editing + stacking the camera did. I upped the yellow and red saturation on the first one (it's actually the moon going below the horizon, but I think the yellow clouds look super cool) and brightened it a bit. The second image was mostly as is but a heavy croped - as might be evidenced once you notice the vignetting on the top left corner only. #photography #astrophotography

Just finished the book "Son of the Black sword." Heard about it randomly the other day, apparently the last book of the series is being dedicated to George RR Matin with the text "See, it's not so hard" Definitely worth checking out. The world building is really spectacular, it starts out fantasy like but - without spoilers - there's a lot more about the world that slowly gets elaborated on. There's also a lot of political intrigue, although it's a bit slow to start, and the characters feel really fleshed out and unique. Definitely with a read/listen. #bookstr

Took a few photos the other day I wanted to share: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/buildings/26.avif As you can see by the sign and frozen lake, they were taken in Albuquerque, New Mexico https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/buildings/27.avif This one turned out real cool, I was waiting for the sun to rise a bit more after taking a few photos, only to see a bald eagle flying overhead. I took two snapshots as fast as I could and this one turned out really neat. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/buildings/28.avif Another really similar shot, but with a plane and long shadows instead of a sunrise. Had a lot more time since the plane was travelling slower (at least from my relative perspective) but turned out almost identical framing wise. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/buildings/25.avif A similar shot to the one above, just a lot more zoomed in. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/portraits/44.avif https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/portraits/45.avif I got a couple of very zoomed in shots. Unless you zoom in more or are on a laptop the birds will probably look like dust on your screen, but I think they turned out cool too. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/0n4t3/photos/refs/heads/main/buildings/23.avif And last got a cool shot of a bench overlooking the (frozen) water. I think it really captured the quiet wait while the sun rose, although less so captured the hand numbing cold the second I'd take my gloves off to take a photo. #photography
Caddy against the Machines I checked, and yup, it's the Bee movie script on Archive.org https://web.archive.org/web/20250103005647/https://chronicles.mad-scientist.club/tales/caddy-against-the-machines/
Well guess it's 2025 now
Year end wrap up blog post:
So a thing happened and I'm kinda flabbergasted. There appears to be a campaign to shut down the Mostr (Nostr <> ActivityPub bridge). Dunno how big it is, but apparently at least one DMCA complaint has been filed. This is all on account of the bridge duplicating posts and profiles on ActivityPub. For those unaware, THIS IS LITERALLY HOW ACTIVITY PUB IS BUILT TO WORK. Every Activity Pub server duplicates content. Without it there'd be no seeing posts from anybody on servers other than their home server. It's literally the thing that makes the protocol work. If being on a protocol that specifically is designed to duplicate content isn't permission enough to duplicate content then the Fediverse goes poof. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Convince Cloudflare, or worse - convince a judge - that a protocol designed around federating content isn't permission to federate content and that's that for #ActivityPub. I'd personally prefer to see both protocols do well; please, if anybody reads this, learn how things work before trying to break things for working as intended. #Nostr #mostr
Finished chapter 50, a bit of a milestone in the plot. As much as I'm personally not a huge fan of starting out stories far in the future and then jumping back to the start of the plot, I did kinda go back and fourth on using this as the prologue instead of what I settled on. If you haven't checked it out and were interested in a (very amateur) free to read/share novel, this chapter would probably make a good introduction into the ongoing work. Certainly a slower and more mysterious introduction rather than the somewhat-mysterious-but-way-more-frantic prologue I went with. View quoted note β†’ #nostrwriter #bookstr #fiction
