Im Nebel
Seltsam, im Nebel zu wandern!
Einsam ist jeder Busch und Stein,
Kein Baum sieht den andern,
Jeder ist allein.
Voll von Freunden war mir die Welt,
Als noch mein Leben licht war;
Nun, da der Nebel fรคllt,
Ist keiner mehr sichtbar.
Wahrlich, keiner ist weise,
Der nicht das Dunkel kennt,
Das unentrinnbar und leise
Von allen ihn trennt.
Seltsam, Im Nebel zu wandern!
Leben ist Einsamsein.
Kein Mensch kennt den andern,
Jeder ist allein.

Strange, to wander in the fog!
Lonely is every bush and stone,
No tree sees the other,
Each stands alone.
Once, the world was full of friends,
When my life was filled with light;
Now that the fog descends,
None is still in sight.
Truly, none is wise
Who has not known the night,
That softly and without guise
From all cuts him in quiet.
Strange, to wander in the fog!
Life is to be alone.
No one knows another,
Each walks on alone.
