I feel lucky that among my kids peer group, AI is seen as something not to be trusted. If they think a friend is lying to them, the callout is "Are you being an AI right now?" And my younger son explained to my mother "No Grandma, you have to skip all the AI stuff at the top of the search page, it might be wrong and shouldn't be trusted"
But continuing to read how many students are using AI for assignments in college makes me worry about a different set of friends and peer pressure when my son goes to a new high school next year.
If suddenly everyone else is using it will it gradually be seen as ok?
There are so many parental controls out there to block kids from accessing adult websites, but I haven't found much in the way of blocking AI.
I have my own DNS server, so have manually blocked some of the big ones, but as more and more companies rebrand access to these chatbots so they can claim to be an AI company, I worry that it will be discovered that if you go to some of these and put in the right qualifiers in your prompt it will write your essay for you.
Are there some other controls I'm missing?
