After working for so long in Southeast Asia, and now living in Japan for the past 4 months I’m starting to miss chilli’s. The food here is awesome but not really spicy at all.
Welcome to another day of I thought I was in a modern country. Today I had one goal…. Get a phone number! I go to the store when they open, “sorry we are busy” (there is no one in the store except the 5 staff) I was told to come back at 4pm. I arrived at the allotted time to be told “sorry you don’t have an appointment “ I decided to stay and not get messed around. 10 minutes later my appointment is found and we start the process and get told that I can get a Samsung phone for 11yen as I’m a new customer.
90 minutes later I’m told that I can’t get the 11yen phone just as I’m about to sign.
The end result no phone and no phone number. This was another 6 hour ordeal.
I’m done with the circus this week and will begin again on Monday 🤪
Japan is different, we all think it’s modern but most practices here are very analog. I had 4 things on my agenda today, register my address with the prefectural office, open a bank account, pay my water bill, and get a new Japanese phone number.
After 8 hours all I had achieved is registration of my address, paying my water bill, and making an appointment in 3 weeks to open a bank account.
For a modern country things are very slow.
